A paper/essay in APA format should be double spaced, with 1" margins on all sides. APA style recommends using 12 pt. Times New Roman as the font for the paper. Each page should have a page header, which is a shortened version of the paper's title, also known as a running head. Every page should have a page number at the top right of each page, level with the running head. The paper should have four sections: the title page, the abstract, the body of the paper, and a reference page. The title page should include, centered and double spaced, the paper title, the author's name, and the school name on three separate lines.
With more specific regard to the layout of the paper, spacing, margins, etc., you might want to consult the print copy of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA), 7th edition. This is the official guidebook for APA style and format. Each campus library has a print copy of this resource available. An online resource that will give you similar guidance in terms of spacing and overall layout is the APA format page on the Online Writing Lab at Purdue University page.
