The call number is the letter/number combination on the label usually found on the spine of the book, but sometimes on the cover of thinner books. The call number has two purposes:
- It is like an address. It is the location of the book among all the items in the Library, and like a physical address it is unique for physical items.
- It brings items on the same or similar topic together in the same neighborhood. You can use the call number to browse the physical collection.
